About the tour
The most impressive part of Peterhof is it’s park with the famous fountains. Fountains are usually in operation from May to October, every day 11am- 5pm. This is the time when I advise to visit Peterrhof.
What kind of transportation to choose? In High season (June-August) I would recommend the car or minivan.
Why?
For a few reasons:
- The hydrofoil can be late or cancelled due to the weather conditions.
- There are huge lines to the hydrofoil during high tourist season. You may miss few boats before you get one.
- During the car trip you will enjoy the urban and the countryside scenery. I’ll tell you many interesting stories about the places we will pass by.
Hydrofoil is nice transportation in low season (May, September, early October) Then you will enjoy it. It has several advantages: it leaves from the city center and brings you to the park of Peterhof in 40 minutes. But only in appropriate weather conditions.
About Peterhof
Park Peterhof (Peter’s court) was designed by Peter the Great in early 18th century in French stile with numerous fountains and sculptures. It was called “the Russian Versailles” by the impressed foreign guests. I’ll dare say it the most beautiful cultivated garden in Russia.
The Great Palace of Peter was completed by the mid 18th century in barocco stile. Russian tsars spent their summer time and organized solemn receptions there.
There is one more palace in the park which may be worthy of your interest - Monplaisir palace – the private villa of Peter the Great.
The most impressive room is the one with the bath pavilion, the place where tsars took the steam bath and even a shower!
